Our company is already operative under the new version of the EN ISO 13849-1:2023 standard, which came into force at the European level in May 2023 and is set to permanently replace the 2015 version by May 2026.
This standard is fundamental for safety-related control systems design (SRP/CS), applicable to all machines according to Directive 2006/42/EC.
THE MAIN CHANGES INTRODUCED:
- Complete reorganization of the document, now more closely aligned with the actual design process
- New clause 4 introduced for direct linkage with ISO 12100 risk assessment
- Detailed specification of safety functions and Safety Requirement Specification (SRS)
- Increased focus on combination of subsystems for overall Performance Level calculation
- Entirely new Clause 7 addressing software requirements, distinguishing between:
- SRESW – Safety-Related Embedded Software
- SRASW – Safety-Related Application Software.
- Introduced Clause 9 on ergonomic aspects in safety system design
- Completely revised validation (Clause 10), now more aligned with ISO 13849-2
- New informative annexes:
- Annex L: EMI immunity – electromagnetic interference
- Annex N: Measures to avoid systematic failures in software
- Annex O: Typical component values for SRP/CS
